4 Months!

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

I officially start each monthly post with... Thomas, slow down, you're growing too fast!! My goodness, with each day, you're becoming more and more little boy and not baby!

Over the last month, you figured out how to roll from your back to your belly and after a little adjustment period, you have become a belly sleeper. We put you in your crib, say goodnight and by the time we're out the door and looking at the monitor (we're always watching!), you've flipped over, stuck your thumb in your mouth and are dozing off to sleep.

Speaking of your thumb, it's your new best friend! I know your Aunt Sara Jane would not approve as a pediatric dentist but your Mommy is just happy that it makes you happy. I'm sure I'll be regretting it later, but now, you sleep, I sleep and we're all happy :) You only suck your left thumb and we've noticed a few other tendencies towards your left-- maybe you'll be a lefty like your Grandma, Bear and Aunt Kathy? Only time will tell!

You're still losing your baby hair more and more each day but finally some new hair is growing in. At the beginning of the month, you were sort of rocking a mohawk as the hair on the sides of your head had fallen out. But now, it's more of an old man combover which I find awfully precious.

You love sitting in your Bumbo chair and grabbing at your Tree Top Friends on your playmat. Mostly you grab at them and then stick them in your mouth. That seems to be the case with everything! You were gifted a Sophie giraffe and she seems to be one of your favorite chew toys. What is it about that thing?!

You are such an easy going baby and rarely fuss unless you need something. How did we get so lucky?! If you are a little fussy, one thing that always cheers you up is looking at the baby in the mirror (you!). You smile so big when you see that precious baby in the mirror and I certainly don't blame you!

Beach Week!

Monday, July 29, 2013

Every summer we're fortunate enough to spend a week at the beach with Andy's family, and this year, there was one more family member in the house! Thomas had a great first trip to the beach and loved splashing in the pool.

He did a pretty good job adjusting to vacation life... there were some times when he did not want to sleep but adjusted to napping poolside.

Thomas found his toes!

More pool time.

First trip to the beach... grey and windy!!

Even more pool time. That seemed to be a favorite.

And then back to the beach on our last day when the sun was out!

Weekend Away!

Friday, July 26, 2013

If I'd given it any previous thought, I might have backed out... Last weekend, I jetted off to Memphis without Andy or Thomas! I didn't really realize what was going on until I was through security at DCA and uncertain what to do with my solo-self. Out of the three weddings we have this year, two were the same weekend so Andy and I had to split up.

First, Aunt Kathy was on call to take care of Thomas on Friday morning.

Friday night, it was all hands on deck. Mom and Dad stayed over since Andy had to leave first thing in the morning. Apparently, when Mom's away, the boys will play! Or rather, watch baseball on TV. Usually the Boo Boo is not allowed to watch TV. I, of course, called in for a little FaceTime.

Then after Andy left Saturday morning to drive to the Tides Inn, Bunny and Bear had Thomas all day and for the night! Of course, I requested pictures every 30 minutes (I thought that was reasonable...).

And then they took Thomas on his first road trip! Word was he was a great little traveler. Fingers crossed he's still that way for our drive home tonight!

The Snooze Button

Thursday, July 25, 2013

You learn pretty quickly that babies don't have snooze buttons. But occasionally I can find one for Thomas...

Very grainy picture since it was pitch black dark. Thomas decided it was time to get up but I had other plans that morning.

Trying to Catch Up!!

Wednesday, July 24, 2013

My oh my, I'm behind on updates! Life has been busy busy busy. After we returned from Dallas, I went back to work. It's bittersweet-- hard to be away from Thomas but nice to have a routine, get dressed and put on make-up :) The first night home, it was so sweet to be reunited with my buddy!

Sometimes, I indulge in snuggles in bed with Thomas.

Thomas dressed up appropriately for 4th of July but we didn't celebrate with any festivities unless watching the fireworks on TV counts.

BTW- I get the best pictures of Thomas when I turn the iPhone camera around so he can see himself on the screen when I'm taking the picture but as I've been looking through these selfies, I see that the quality of those pics are not nearly as good as using the other side of the camera. Hmph!

Now that Thomas is a busy busy baby, apparently he's just exhausted by dinner time! Woe is me!

Still loving his playmat but mostly now prefers to be sitting in his bumbo amongst his friends.

And sometimes all that fun is just too exhausting!

Growing up too fast! Now can sit facing out in his Stokke and loves sitting up on the sofa!

Thomas' New Trick!

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

I knew when I wrote about our good sleeper, that I was in for it. But he just looks so precious in the pictures! I couldn't resist! In the last few days, Thomas learned and mastered his newest trick-- rolling from his back to his belly.

We're quite proud of him and think it's just adorable (as any parent would), except when it's time to sleep. We'll lay him down to sleep and while he used to doze off on his own, now he thinks it's trick time-- rolls himself over, smiles with pride and then freaks out because he can't roll back over. Think it's time for him to learn the reverse for his next trick.

Day on the Boat

Monday, July 8, 2013

On Saturday, we went on an adventure to National Harbor to hang out on Dalliance for the day. The original plan was to take a little boat ride but instead we stayed docked, bobbed up and down and did a test run with Thomas on board.

We think Thomas will be a boat baby. He did great aboard with his precious rosy cheeks and then it was rock-a-bye baby in the stateroom for a nice long nap!

Sleep

Monday, July 1, 2013

Sleep was one of the main things I was worried about when we found out we were expecting. I'm a sleeper. I do (did!) best with 9+ hours a night. And when I go to sleep, I stay asleep until the morning. Well, pregnancy gave me a little taste of sleep issues/disruptions, but I knew a newborn would really rock my sleeping world. Before Thomas was born, I read all sorts of books, articles, blog posts about baby sleep. I was determined to be prepared and have a plan. First thing I was going to teach Thomas-- the importance of sleep! While I'd like to think that all of my efforts paid off (implementing the routines, waking a sleeping baby!), really I think we were blessed with a good sleeper.
